Habitat restoration and protection
Purpose:
To ensure the conservation, restoration and management of old, ecologically valuable tree habitats – particularly important for the goldenrod beetle. The project will apply arborist maintenance practices, restore damaged habitats and integrate biodiversity-friendly solutions into regional planning and infrastructure maintenance in Lithuania and Latvia.
Main actions:
1. Habitat conservation agreements and adaptation:
● conclude agreements with private and public landowners for arboricultural
measures and long-term protection of naturally important trees. Planned
The minimum number of contracts is 1200.
● Develop guidelines for the management of tree alleys that are conducive to the protection of goldenrod habitats and
integrate them into the specifications of Latvian state roads, mandatory for all
contractors working in the territories managed by Latvian state roads.
● Prepare and implement 5 and update 1 reconstruction plan for these regions of Latgale, Latvia
parks in the region: Riebiņu, Ozolmuiža, Adamova Manor, Eversmuiža,
Runtortas and Preiliai. The aim of these plans is to integrate the beneficial properties of the goldenrod beetle
conservation practices into park planning and maintenance.
● To compile and submit to Lithuanian municipalities valuable information on the Lithuanian ecological network
list of habitat trees.
● Submit and include in the nature database OZOLS valuable sites of the Latvian ecological network
list of trees.
2. Habitat restoration:
● using the services of certified arborists, select and implement the necessary
arboristic measures that will extend the life of selected valuable trees located
in the ecological network, lifespan.
● Apply arborist measures to at least 3,850 valuable trees (1,700 trees in Lithuania)
and 2150 in Latvia).
● Plant 30 oak trees and install 25 artificial habitats for saproxylic insects,
for bats and birds.
