
Stakeholder collaboration, public engagement and long-term impact
Purpose:
In order to ensure the protection of old and biologically valuable trees and their associated biodiversity in Lithuania and Latvia, to raise public awareness about the importance of valuable trees for the entire ecosystem. Also, to strengthen the competencies of specialists and institutions in this area, and to promote international cooperation.
Main actions:
1. Environmental training and specialist training:
● Develop a course for arborists and environmental specialists at Daugavpils University
about the interaction and importance of biodiversity and tree care.
● Organize seminars for municipalities and various organizations on environmental protection
for specialists on the management of tree parks and alleys in Latvia.
● Organize seminars for municipalities on the management of valuable trees and their importance
ecosystem in Lithuania.
2. Sharing good practices in neighboring countries:
● Organize a seminar for environmental protection specialists in Estonia. During the seminar
to present the latest methods of protecting Osmoderma barnabita, habitat restoration
data and public engagement strategies.
● Exchange of experience with other LIFE projects dedicated to biodiversity and habitats
protection, participation in international conferences presenting project activities and
results.
3. Publicity and community engagement, educational activities:
● With the help of various information tools (social networks, events, seminars,
media campaigns) to reach at least 200,000 people in Lithuania and Latvia.
● Organize educational programs at the Lithuanian Zoo and protected areas
in parks in Lithuania.
● Participate in various nature festivals and nature-themed events, and present
project ideas and results.
● Organize public events and mobile nature lessons to introduce children to
the importance of ancient trees and their inhabitants, as well as events at Daugavpils University,
