Biodiversity
Lithuania is one of the countries where natural forests, wetlands, meadows and water bodies still provide shelter to a rich diversity of plants, animals and fungi. However, scientists also note worrying trends - intensification of agriculture, wood use and urbanization have a negative impact on Lithuanian ecosystems. Development at the expense of nature reduces the area of natural habitats, causes fragmentation and hinders natural migration processes of species. Climate change also significantly contributes to the loss and change of habitats of more sensitive species.
The Lithuanian Foundation for Nature implements projects aimed at protecting endangered habitats and the organisms living in them, and seeks to ensure their longevity. The goal of our activities is not only to restore damaged territories, but also to strengthen the understanding of both local societies and international partners about the importance of biodiversity. We do all this so that future generations can enjoy Lithuania's natural resources, enjoy its beauty and ecosystem services, the value of which is invaluable.
